Northern Ireland Opera's Week of School Workshops
Northern Ireland Opera is delighted to announce an exciting programme of workshops for secondary school music students in The Studio at the Grand Opera House from 10 – 14 June 2024.
Open to music students (Recommended for Year 9 to Year 11), this unique educational experience will see a week of educational exploration, where students will have the opportunity to deepen their musical understanding and gain insights from industry professionals in the collaborative artwork of opera. The repertoire will include works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Humperdinck, Puccini, Bizet, Verdi and Britten.
Workshops will be led by India Chapman-Webb, Outreach Officer for Northern Ireland Opera.
India graduated with honours in singing performance from the Conservatoire of Music, Paris, followed by a Masters in Early Music Vocal Studies at the Accademia Internazionale delle Arti in Rome. For the last 15 years, India has worked as a professional singer and a music educator in France, Belgium, England and Northern Ireland. India teaches voice and flute at Hunterhouse College and conducts Belfast City Chorus Songbirds, Belfast City Chorus HMP Hydebank and the award-winning EA CBSM Chorale.
What to Expect
IMMERSIVE WORKSHOPS (Monday – Thursday)
- A daily timetable of different music and theatre skills workshop activities from Monday to Thursday where students can explore acting, staging, directing, and linguistics, unveiling the multifaceted world of opera.
- Each Session lasts the full day, but schools are welcome to attend as many workshops as they wish and to participate in the showing performance on the Friday.
- Delve into repertoire and enhance performance skills working with music and theatre professionals from Northern Ireland Opera in The Studio of the Grand Opera House
COLLABORATIVE PERFORMANCE DAY (Friday)
- Expert-led workshops where participants can showcase their new-found skills, working together with students from other schools.
- Participants from across the week come together in The Studio at the Grand Opera House to perform in front of an invited audience of friends and family.

This series of workshops are made available by Northern Ireland Opera through funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation and are provided at no cost to participating schools.
