Painting the Grand Opera House
Painting work on the Grand Opera House façade was completed during the summer of 2022.
Prior to the painting work beginning, it had been five years since the ornate brick and stonework of the iconic Grand Opera House façade was cleaned and painted. Scaffolding went up in June 2022 to facilitate this important work which was expected to last for 12 weeks.
The façade, which dates from 1895, is built of brick and cast stone, and features an eclectic mix of ornamental elements including decorative columns, ‘onion-domes’ and minarets. Following the recent extensive internal restoration of the Theatre, the entire façade was expertly cleaned and repainted.
The Grand Opera House Trust undertook to carry out this important work every five years demonstrating our commitment to maintaining and protecting the fabric and heritage of this important listed building for future generations.
