Q&A with Peter Corry
Peter Corry MBE is a singer, actor, director and producer who has performed in shows all over the world and has staged many productions including the biggest production ever at the time of Les Misérables.
We caught up with Peter ahead of his musical medley show Thank You for the Musicals coming to the Grand Opera House from 25 - 26 February 2025.
What's been your favourite performance (your own) / place to perform?
The Royal Albert Hall was pretty special but also singing before a match on the pitch at Old Trafford was pretty good too. These days I could maybe make it on the team.
What's your favourite musical to watch?
Ah there are so many! I'll go for Crazy for You. It puts a smile on my face.
What's your favourite musical to perform?
Les Misérables.
Describe the perfect Saturday/Sunday/Day Off
The sun is shining, I stay at home and relax outside in the garden with my wife and our cat listening to music. Have a nice meal with a good bottle of wine and fall asleep listening to an old radio play (not very rock 'n' roll - I know).
What era would you go back in time to?
The era of swing music, big bands and double breasted suits.
If you weren't doing what you're doing, what job would you have?
Running a restaurant or nightclub, preferably somewhere exotic - I think I've just described Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca.
Dream duet - you and....?
With Sinatra singing Cole Porter's "I've got you under my skin" accompanied by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
Best live music experience as an audience member?
A small concert I went to when I was living in London which featured a young and up-and-coming singer called Cynthia Erivo - when I saw her perform I realised this was a special performance by an exceptionally talented artist.
That's a great story!
And finally...
What can audiences expect at Thank You For The Musicals?
It's really a celebration of Broadway and the West End. Along with myself is a brilliant cast of singers and we take you through many of the hit songs from the musicals.
There's dynamic staging and choreography of songs many people will know and love already, but also some less familiar ones that might just become new favourites. It gives the audience an opportunity to enjoy some performances they otherwise might not get the opportunity to see.
Thank You for the Musicals runs from 25 - 26 February 2025 at the Grand Opera House. Get your tickets here.
