The Grand Opera House recognises its responsibility to act on the climate crisis and to reduce its impact on the planet.
Our Green Story - Actions so far
The Theatre is committed to prioritising sustainable practices throughout the organisation and has undertaken several green initiatives.
The Theatre is powered by Resource Renewable Electricity supplied by Electric Ireland – 100% of all electricity supplied is from a renewable source.
The building is powered by local, renewable electricity with zero carbon emissions sourced from renewable resources.
100% of commercial waste is recycled or recovered, and no waste goes to landfill.
The Theatre’s box office team promotes e-ticketing, reducing printed tickets by around 300,000 per year.
The Theatre works with production companies and venues to plan out the most efficient touring routes for shows to minimise mileage and the environmental impact.
The Theatre’s seasonal brochures are printed on FSC-certified responsibly sourced paper.

The Grand Opera House is working hard to be as green and sustainable as possible, but we need your help. We can all reduce the impact we make on the environment by making choices. As a visitor to the Theatre, you have role to play in helping the Grand Opera House become a more sustainable venue.

Leave the Car Behind

Use eTickets
Since the introduction of e-ticketing we have reduced the use of single-use printed tickets by over 300,000 per year, lowering the Theatre's carbon footprint and reducing our paper waste.
Get Connected
Joining the Theatre's mailing lists and following on social media is a great way to stay informed and reduce the amount of physical, printed marketing materials required for promotion.
Support Local
Enjoy the taste of local products and help support local communities. The Grand Opera House stocks a wide range of locally sourced products including Dale Farm, Boatyard Gin and Forrest Feasts. Be sure to ask your server for a recommendation.

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle
All of the waste generated in the Grand Opera House is recycled as far as possible by the Theatre's waste providers. Please make sure to use the refuse bins provided in the venue.
