The Summer Youth Production is a long-running tradition that sees young people from all backgrounds take part in a large scale, professional-standard productions on the Theatre's main stage.
GREASE
From the team that staged Sunset Boulevard in 2024, the Grand Opera House Summer Youth Production returns this July with one of the world’s most popular musicals of all time GREASE.
Get ready to rock ‘n’ roll and step back to 1959 at Rydell High this summer in this much-loved musical featuring Danny and Sandy, along with The T-Birds and The Pink Ladies, as they navigate the ups and downs of love, friendship and the rollercoaster journey of teenage life.
This electrifyin’ musical classic features a phenomenal score with some of GREASE’s greatest hits including You’re the One That I Want, Hopelessly Devoted to You and Summer Nights.
Fully staged, costumed and choreographed, the Grand Opera House Summer Youth Production offers the perfect platform for Northern Ireland’s rising stars to shine and captivate audiences.
GREASE is open to all 16-21 year olds
from across Northern Ireland. No previous experience is necessary.
Production & Rehearsal Dates
The project will run from Saturday 5 July to Saturday 19 July 2025 inclusive with performances on Thursday 17 July at 7pm, Friday 18 July at 7pm and Saturday 19 July 2025 at 2pm and 7pm.
Cast members must be available to attend every day within this period.
Additional rehearsals for principals only will take place from Friday 27 June to Sunday 29 June 2025.
Costs
The cost to participate is £250 per person, 50% of the fee is required as a non-refundable deposit after the auditions are completed and the remaining balance to be paid no later than Friday 24 May 2025.
Auditions
First stage open auditions will take place on Saturday 22 March 2025 at St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Donegall Pass, Belfast BT7 1BU.
Call back auditions will take place in the Grand Opera House on the following day, Sunday 23 March 2025.
Due to the demands of auditioning large numbers, it is not possible to accommodate auditions at any other time.
To register for auditions, please complete the online registration form. Applicants must upload a recent, unfiltered, passport sized photograph with their application. This is important for the team to have on audition day. To be eligible to take part, you must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have completed your GCSEs by the first day of rehearsals.
Theclosing date to register for auditions is Friday 14 March 2025.
Youth Tech Crew
There is also an opportunity for young people aged 16 to 21 years old to be a member of the Youth Tech Crew and work alongside the Grand Opera House technical team. If you would like to be part of this team, please complete the Youth Tech Crew Registration form and we will contact you regarding an interview in April 2025.
The closing date for applications for the Youth Tech Crew is Friday 28 March 2025.
Under 16s
If you are below the age of 16 and not eligible to apply for GREASE don’t worry, the Grand Opera House will run a youth project for those aged 10-15 years old in the autumn of 2025. Please keep an eye on our social media platforms for further details later in the year.
